Stumpy

Stumpy's Kids are animals waiting for adoption who have a strike or two against them in terms of finding new permanent, loving homes. Some may have survived illnesses or injuries that have left them missing a part or two; some may be blind; some may simply be elderly animals.

The Stumpy Fund helps rescue and rehabilitate strays like Stumpy. For more information about Stumpy's Kids or the Stumpy Fund, contact City Critters.

Stumpy's Kids

CeCe

Dempsey is a friendly, playful young male rescued from the Lower East Side. Unfortunately, he has tested positive for Feline Leukemia so he is in urgent need of a very special person. He can be adopted or fostered as a single cat or as a buddy for another leukemia-positive cat. He gets along well with dogs, and could live with a cat-friendly dog. He likes people and will fetch toys. He is currently very healthy and should thrive in the right home.

For more information about Dempsey, please please e-mail us.

Lionel

Raven is just a couple of years old, enormous, totally outgoing and friendly. This longhaired beauty tested positive for FeLV, but has no symptoms of illness whatsoever at this point. As one of his rescuers puts it, "He’s just radiant." How can you resist?

If you're interested in adopting or fostering Raven, please e-mail us.

Lionel

Lionel is one of two FIV-positive cats who were taken in by our dear friend Judy Kappel, a long-time member of City Critters who died of cancer in 2006. He's about 12 years old. He was rescued from the tracks of the F train back in 1998. He is currently in a foster home, but needs to find a permanent home. He is handsome, funny and has tons of charm. He is very attached to Jeremy (shown below).

If you're interested in adopting or fostering Lionel and Jeremy, please e-mail us.

Jeremy

Jeremy comes from the same household as Lionel. He's about 9 years old, a sweet, healthy cat who likes lots of affection. Like Lionel, he's FIV positive. Lionel and Jeremy are very attached to each other, and we'd like to place them together if possible.

If you'd like to foster or adopt Lionel and his pal Jeremy, please e-mail us.

Stumpy Kid Success Stories

Snuggles, The Dude

The Dude, an FIV+ cat formerly known as Snuggles, is now living the good life in Hoboken. His adopters wrote recently:

"Sometime in the summer of 2004 we stopped by your adoption center at Petco. We wanted to volunteer with your organization. We ended up taking home a 4-year-old FIV positive kitty named Snuggles to foster. We've renamed him to "The Dude". After bringing him home we realized he was more attitude than snuggly. He loves catnip toys so he's been given that name. He’s a feisty, sometimes grumpy, active, playful cat. Sometimes when he's sleepy or wants his wet food he’ll even show his sweet side and will snuggle up to us. He doesn't like to be on our lap but he can never get enough loving in the form of a full body massage. He's agile, playful, a great hunter (with us as his prey), mischievous and utterly adorable. We absolutely love him."

Topper

Toppy was the only one of her litter to survive after she lost her mother at only three weeks. She was bottle-fed by the person who first rescued her. She has thrived and become a charming, affectionate cat. Toppy was exposed to the FIV virus and tested positive.

Thanks in part to the Stumpy Fund, Toppy is doing well in a loving home.

Amelia

Amelia survived a nasty accident in which her tail and one hind leg were very badly damaged. We think she may have been caught in a car engine as it started. The picture above shows her in the condition in which she was found, with crushed leg and gangrenous tail (both had to be amputated).

She has made a great recovery. Although not much of a jumper, she plays, climbs, and sticks her nose into everything. She demands attention and love when she's in the mood, but has no patience with being petted when she's not. Thanks in part to the Stumpy Fund, Amelia is now presiding over a household of her own, and has become a Buffalo Bills fan.

Miranda

Miranda had parts of all four feet missing when found by a good samaritan. She has made an exellent recovery and has proved to be a spirited, playful, happy kitten.

Miranda found an excellent home, thanks in part to the Stumpy Fund.
