Bonnie Fitzsimmons

We offer this page in memory of our dear friend, Bonnie Fitzsimmons, one of the founding members of City Critters, and at the time of her death, our stellar treasurer.

Bonnie died unexpectedly at age 56, at home, in the middle of a typically busy Saturday morning dedicated to hard work on behalf of both animals and people.

She left friends and family bereft and stunned, her own cats homeless, and countless future acts of kindness undone. A staunch, and when necessary, fierce defender of animals in need and a generous, stimulating, and compassionate friend, Bonnie can't be replaced, and we miss her more than we can say.

Bonnie Fitzsimmons

When Bonnie died in June 1998, she had 11 cats of her own and 6 fostered kittens in her bright, airy apartment.

Thanks to Bonnie's friends, West Chelsea Veterinary Hospital, Tribeca-Soho Animal Hospital, The Natural Pet, Anise Baron, Carolyn Miller, foster parents Steven, Alessandra and Bruce, and some kind and compassionate adopters, all of Bonnie's cats were placed, finally, by early January 1999.

Bonnie's beloved cat Alfie, who died earlier in 1998. Bonnie had planned to take his ashes with her to Tuscany and spread them there.

Maggie

Clever, beautiful, mischievous Maggie often interrupted City Critter board meetings at Bonnie's apartment by opening people's purses and bags and removing any Chapstick she happened to find.
