Waiting for new homes
The animals that we show for adoption or foster care are all rescued, by members of City Critters, Inc., by other New York City animal workers, or by good samaritans. Most are strays. Others have been accepted from owners in desperate straits who could no longer keep them. Some were scheduled for euthanasia at New York City's Center for Animal Care and Control.
All animals are examined by a veterinarian, tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered if appropriate.
Trapito
Trapito's foster mom describes him as a very nice, intelligent guy who loves to play. He is humble but happy and does not take himself too seriously. He is not fussy at all with food, but loves treats and turkey. He is very content with a nice, clean blanket to curl up on. He's very healthy, and keeps himself squeaky clean. He does not destroy things like another cat in his foster home who shall remain nameless.

Dempsey
Dempsey is a friendly, playful young male rescued from the Lower East Side. Unfortunately, he has tested positive for Feline Leukemia, so he is in urgent need of a very special person. He can be adopted or fostered as a single cat or as a buddy for another leukemia-positive cat. He gets along well with dogs, and could live with a cat-friendly dog. He likes people and will fetch toys. He is currently very healthy. For more information, please e-mail Marilyn or Holly.
Raven
This longhaired beauty is just a couple of years old, a full-figured dude who is totally outgoing and friendly. He tested positive for FeLV, but has no symptoms of illness whatsoever at this point. As one of his rescuers puts it, "He’s just radiant." How can you resist?

Tapioca
Tapioca was near death when rescued from the basement of a 99-Cent Store in the East Village. Her owner had given her to the people who run the store. Tapioca hid in the basement and barely ate or drank for three weeks. When we heard about the situation, we set a humane trap where Tappy had last been seen, and caught her.
She was jaundiced, dehydrated, and barely able to move, and had to be rushed to a vet. For a while she had to be fed through a feeding tube. Her coat was so matted that she couldn't lift her head: her chin was matted to her chest. She had to be shaved, and she needs careful regular grooming to prevent matting.
Tappy is fully recovered now. For months she was fearful and suspicious of people, but these days she is a happy, healthy cat who likes to be in the center of household activity.
For more information about Tapioca, please e-mail Kathryn.
Some of our cats and kittens can be seen in our adoption area in the Kips Bay PetCo, 31st St. and 2nd Ave. Older kittens and cats can be visited anytime during store hours. Younger kittens are only shown on weekends. Most of our animals are listed online. Please use the links below to search our online listings:
